Sprinklers credited with keeping fire contained at furniture store (Kutztown, PA)

Thanks to the building's fire sprinklers, a fire that began in a used furniture store was contained to a small area until fire crews arrived, said Chief Troy Arndt of the Kutztown Fire Company. When the firefighters arrived, they found the fire smoldering behind the sales counter, and they put out the rest of the flames.

Fire sprinklers keep fire at university from spreading (Manchester, NH)

Fire sprinklers suppressed a fire which began under an aquarium in one of the offices at the University of Southern New Hampshire. Deputy Fire Chief Mark Pelletier said the sprinkler system activated in the office, which kept the flames from spreading to other areas of the building, including the college's main computer server located across the hall. No injuries were reported.

Elevator fire suppressed by fire sprinkler system (Nashville, TN)

The Parkway Towers office building had an electrical fire begin in the garage portion of the elevator shaft. According to Nashville Fire Department spokesman Joaquin Toon, the building's fire sprinklers activated and helped to suppress the fire.

Firefighters aided by sprinkler system in fire at Canadian Tire store (Calgary, AB)

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a two alarm fire at a Canadian Tire store in the city's southeast on Thursday afternoon.  Crews evacuated the building and firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the blaze thanks to the store's sprinkler system.

Sprinkler system puts out fire in high school wood shop (Broadview Heights, OH)

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will be closed Friday after a fire erupted in a wood shop class Thursday, according to the high school's website.  Broadview Heights Fire Chief Jeffrey Hajek said that the fire broke out about 4:15 p.m.  The sprinkler system was activated and put out the fire.  No one was injured.

Apartment balcony fire extinguished by sprinkler (Rapid City, SD)

A single sprinkler extinguished a balcony fire at the Stoney Creek Apartments in Rapid City on Wednesday evening.  The fire originated in or around a small trash receptacle on the balcony.  It began to spread up the exterior siding until the sprinkler activated and put the fire out.

Lieutenant Brent Long with Rapid City Fire Department said the presence of the sprinkler system proved to be invaluable with its quick extinguishment of the fire. The 1 sprinkler head that activated saved what could have turned in a great deal of damage to the property, and potential for having to relocate the tenants.

Firefighters cite sprinklers value in factory fire (New Holland, PA)

Firefighters report that the fire at a New Holland factory could have been a lot bigger, but the building was spared by something very small - the building's fire sprinklers. "They had a sprinkler head inside the unit itself," said Deputy Chief Jeff Martin of the Liberty Fire Company. "It got hot enough to activate that sprinkler head so actually the sprinkler head didn't complete out, but it controlled the fire and held it into tact until we could get into it and completely extinguish it. That goes to show you, sprinkler systems do save property and they save jobs for employees, too."
